Dapper Dan’s sketch covers for Infestation
The Ghostbusters Infestation series is due outMarch 9th, and to get you all excited, here’s some sketch covers that good ol’ Dapper Dan Schoening made up for the first issue.
Dan had the following to say:
I wanted to share with you some sketch covers I did for the upcoming IDW’s Ghostbusters Infestation #1! I’m super humbled to be apart of the project, and getting to sketch out GB characters is always exciting. In total I did 250 covers, and there are a few one offs of specific characters in there as well. Here’s a sampling of some of the covers. If you pick one up, let me know where and which cover! Cheers

Wait a minute! There’s 250 sketch variant covers, in addition to the 2 or 3 other variants, for this one issue?!? That’s insane!
Are these 250 sketches individually hand-drawn, or are they mass printings of Dan’s artwork?
If they’re individually hand-drawn, then I take it they’re like the artist sketch cards from the Garbage Pail Kids All-New Series 5 (I think 5 had the sketch cards) from five years back. Which means they’ll be highly collectible and one-of-a-kind.

Proton Charging posted some more info on the covers. In short, these 250 ARE hand-drawn and one-of-a-kind, though some covers might feature similar imagery, as Dan didn’t do 250 “unique” sketches. The “blank” hand ripping background cover will also be available, officially designated as RI-A (retailer incentive A) – though it’s kinda pointless as it has nothing to do with GB other than the title logo.
The Dapper Dan covers are officially designated as RI-B (retailer incentive B). Chris at Proton Charging says, “Basically, up to 25 copies ordered and the retailer gets one of the blank covers. Over that amount and they get, randomly, one of the sketch covers.” Graham Cracker comics lists the “blank” cover as 1:10, so I think he might be a tad wrong. I think 25 or more gets the sketch cover. Not that it matters, because I e-mailed John at Graham Cracker Comics, and he told me that they’re not getting the sketch covers. Mile High Comics doesn’t even have the book listed, so I don’t know if they’re getting the sketch covers or not.
Why do I have this bad feeling that all of fans are going to have to go the over-priced eBay route to get them?
Chris did have a good idea: nab one of the blanks, and see if you can find Dan at a convention somewhere, sometime. Sure, it won’t be one of the “official” 250 sketch covers, but it’ll still be an authentic Dapper Dan sketch cover, and that’s gotta count for something.
