Behind-the-scenes look at one of Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s best Easter eggs

There’s no question that Ghostbusters: Afterlife is littered with Easter eggs and callbacks to the franchise’s past. Some are obvious, while others are more well-hidden, with one that the more casual fan may have missed being a relatively quick, ghostly cameo!

In the film, when Gozer the Gozerian makes its triumphant return, we see the quiet town of Summerville, Oklahoma, get turned upside down as paranormal happenings begin to occur all over. This includes a rather unsightly specter showing up that any fan of Kenner’s 1980s Real Ghostbusters toyline would immediately recognize; THE BUG-EYE GHOST!

While we’ve talked about the Bug-Eye Ghost’s inclusion in the past, today, we’ve been given a behind-the-scenes look at how the beloved toy was adapted to the big screen thanks to Afterlife artist Brynn Metheney.

Metheney took to Instagram, posting:

For the super fans! I had the pleasure of revamping Bug-Eye for Ghostbusters Afterlife! I was asked to do a few concept sketches of the character for production. Version 2 was the winner and so I explored some movement and expressions a bit. This was a fast turnaround – about a day- as production was well under way. I had a ton of fun with good ol’ Bug-Eye!

In addition to the above feature on ol’ Bug-Eye, Metheney has also uploaded additional concept sketches for the Terror Dogs and the Mini-Pufts, along with a previous feature on Muncher.
