This week, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, the new 4v1 asymmetrical video game from developer Illfonic, was released, and as evident from our recent live streams, we’re having a total blast with it, with one of the many highlights being the robust amount of customization options.
While most fans have chosen to use the in-game character customizer to create a virtual avatar of themselves, others have opted to be a bit more creative, with today’s feature showcasing a familiar-looking recruit who, unfortunately, is very much afraid of ghosts.
Spotted on the Ghostbusters Reddit page, user MisterFii made use of the game’s more exaggerated facial options, creating an easily recognizable rendition of everyone’s second favorite plumber, Luigi, complete with trademark green cap and an appropriately colored Ghostbusters flightsuit.
While many will instantly make the connection given the Luigi’s Mansion game series, which sees the title character capturing ghosts with the aid of a vacuum cleaner, we’d like to take it one step further, making note that in Spirits Unleashed, players are tasked with collecting various samples of spores, molds, and fungus, and while I could talk about the use of a mushroom power-up, instead, my mind immediately wanders to 1993’s live-action film adaptation, Super Mario Bros. Remember, trust the fungus, kids!
