‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’ sequel enlists original Stay Puft Marshmallow Man actor and designer

With many considering last year’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife a love letter to fans of the original film, it appears that next year’s sequel, codenamed Firehouse, will keep that original recipe, enlisting a few familiar faces, including legendary designer, actor, and creature creator Billy Bryan!

Recently responsible for turning Heidi Klum into “the world’s most attractive worm,” it’s hard to summarize Bryan’s career in a short blurb. The multi-talented craftsman has done just about everything, from building banana suits for an Elton John tour to having his creative fingerprints in what seems like countless films, including Men in Black, Army of Darkness, Jackass Forever, The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water, and Tenacious D In the Pick of Destiny.

For Ghostbusters fans, likely Bryan’s biggest contribution to films was realizing Dan Aykroyd’s concept of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, designing, fabricating, and even portraying the adorable destructor in the 1984 comedy.

In a new Instagram post, Bryan has confirmed his return to the franchise with the caption, “Here we go again.. and look who is back..” being seen looking down the barrel of Spengler’s Neutrona Wand.

The image comes from a previously posted Instagram story from Afterlife creature and special makeup designer Arjen Tuiten, who has further confirmed his return for Firehouse, commenting on Bryan’s post, writing, “It’s an honor to have you with us, Bill.”

Filming of Firehouse is expected to take place in the Spring, with a release date currently slated for December 20, 2023.
