Over its nearly 40-year-old existence, we’ve seen Ghostbusters receive a handful of noteworthy crossovers, including comic books and actions figures that crossed streams with Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man entering the squared circle of the WWE. Still, somehow, the animated series The Real Ghostbusters and Extreme Ghostbusters were arguably even more adventurous, introducing characters and moments that borrowed heavily from The Simpsons, Killer Klowns from Outerspace, and even Hellraiser.
Since not all fans knew of these various animated homages, we recently started featuring the more absurd on the Ghostbusters News YouTube channel as part of a new video series titled, “That time the Ghostbusters met…” Proving to be rather popular, and given the positive response, we’re back looking at another episode of Extreme Ghostbusters that introduces a few familiar-looking federal agents.
While the FBI Agents are an obvious nod to Men in Black, there’s also a wink at The X-Files, and while not unique to the 1980s Joe Dante film, we’ve got to mention the episode’s significant threat, a Gremlin!
As mentioned, we’ve already looked at other would-be crossovers, including The Real Ghostbusters episode “Guess What’s Coming To Dinner,” which managed to spoof Fox’s The Simpsons and Married With Children, along with a rather extreme adaptation of the b-movie Killer Klowns from Outerspace!
