If you somehow missed yesterday’s blockbuster announcement, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind have joined the cast of the upcoming Gil Kenan-directed Ghostbusters sequel.
While social media has been ablaze with fans sharing their take on the news, some of whom already questioning which of the four could potentially pick up a Proton Pack, star Nanjiani shared his love of the franchise, admitting that “I can’t believe I get to be a part of this world.”
Ghostbusters was my first favorite movie. I remember exactly how I felt the first time I watched it. Horror and comedy in one movie? This movie was made for me, and I watched it over and over.

In a statement, Nanjiani re-shared the exclusive Deadline report, saying that the original Ghostbusters was one of his first favorite movies and that the film’s cross between horror and comedy made it feel like it was made for him, going on to call the script for the upcoming sequel, “unbelievably good.”

Fellow cast member Patton Oswalt would soon retweet Nanjiani’s statement.
In recent casting news, Ghostbusters: Afterlife’s Paul Rudd and Carrie Coon have been confirmed to reprise their roles. While not officially announced through Columbia Pictures Ghost Corps, interviews with Finn Wolfhard and Mckenna Grace have more than suggested their returns, in addition to the film being touted as “the next chapter of the Spengler family saga.”
Currently being filmed in the United Kingdom under the working title of Firehouse, the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel is expected to take the franchise back to New York City and is slated to arrive in theaters on December 20th, 2023.
