First announced during last year’s Ghostbusters Day celebration, the immersive VR experience Ghostbusters VR Academy is now available at 450+ HOLOGATE locations across 42 countries worldwide, making its debut in the world’s largest out-of-home VR network.

For Ghostbusters fans, the fully-immersive experience will help fulfill a lifelong dream of operating iconic ghostbusting equipment in two distinct games across two HOLOGATE platforms. These include the neutrona wand-wielding HOLOGATE ARENA, with players working together as a team in high-risk ghost encounter scenarios, and HOLOGATE BLITZ, an in-air race that has academy members getting behind the wheel of the prototype ECTO-VR hovercraft.

“We are delighted to have collaborated with Sony Pictures VR on this experience,” said Leif Petersen, CEO and founder of HOLOGATE. “Set in one of the world’s most beloved franchises, Ghostbusters VR Academy offers players an amazing shared social experience that family and friends can enjoy. Our company-wide mission is to create a social play setting, an escape from reality that creates powerful, long-lasting memories of good times. Ghostbusters VR Academy is the perfect fit for our ARENA and BLITZ platforms, and we can’t wait for our recruits to start their training!”

“Ghostbusters VR Academy takes full advantage of HOLOGATE’s location-based entertainment technology to immerse players in the Ghostbusters universe with friends and family, it’s an absolute thrill for Ghostbusters fans old and new,” said Jake Zim, Senior Vice President, Virtual Reality at Sony Pictures Entertainment. “Players can strap on a proton pack and operate a brand-new hovercraft version of the ECTO to train to be a real Ghostbuster in an amazing academy setting, complete with iconic characters like Slimer and the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man. This story-expanding, fantasy-fulfilling experience is only possible in virtual reality.”

As part of today’s launch, HOLOGATE shared a handful of new photos, showing that while they’re clearly doing their own thing, the experience is jam-packed full of pre-existing nods to the franchise, not only including the aforementioned Slimer and Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, but locations such as Ghostbusters II’s river of slime and the abandoned subway station.

Ghostbusters VR Academy on HOLOGATE ARENA launches on the first day of the Amusement Expo in Las Vegas, the most influential conference and trade show dedicated to the amusement entertainment industry, with the launch on HOLOGATE BLITZ following soon after.
