Ghostbusters sequel set dressing includes clever Easter egg to original film

As production of the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel continues today in New York City, we’ve just received a handful of new photos, further showing off the Ecto-1’s slightly updated look and a clever Easter egg found within some of the set dressing.

Ghostbusters News reader @chris_saves provided us with today’s feature, confirming that filming took place on Chamber’s Street, leading to a rather familiar location within the Ghostbusters universe, City Hall.

In the photos, we’re presented with a much clearer shot of the Ecto’s red trim details, which now extend to the front of the vehicle. The roof rack also appears slightly different from what was seen yesterday, with the dome-like gadget seemingly removed.

While we now know, thanks to yesterday’s BBC One interview with Dan Aykroyd, that franchise newcomer James Acaster will be “one of the developers of new equipment” in this new iteration, we’re still in the dark when it comes to any of the vehicle’s unique new features.

In an unexpected Easter egg, that we’ve got to admit is a crazy deep cut, bicycles, and adjacent docks are shown displaying “Manhattan City Bank,” the fictitious financial institution that was used in the original 1984 comedy, where Ray Stantz is mentioned to have taken a third mortgage to help finance the Ghostbusters.

Slated to arrive in theaters on December 20th, 2023, be sure to keep checking back to Ghostbusters News and our YouTube channel throughout the week, as with Ghostbusters Day taking place this Thursday, expect likely some big reveals and announcements.

If you missed yesterday’s New York City coverage, grab that here, and to get caught up on Dan Aykroyd’s recent comments, we’ve totally got that for you.
