Horror FX legend Steve Johnson is offering a limited run of light-up Ghostbusters Slimer statues

In a rare opportunity for Ghostbusters collectors, legendary visual effects artist Steve Johnson has teamed up with autograph group The Containment Unit to offer an exclusive limited 30-piece run of light-up Slimer statues.

Measuring 6.5″ tall, Slimer is made of a strong, durable, and lightweight translucent resin stemming from a 3D scan of Johnson’s original sculpture. Each will include a hand-signed signature plaque and stand atop a light-up LED base, ensuring that the Onionhead appears as ethereal as ever.

Lineage Slimer sculptures from Johnson have become highly sought after amongst fans, typically regulated to convention showroom floors, with the only widespread release arriving as a pack-in for 2009’s long-since discontinued Ghostbusters: The Video Game Slimer Edition.

Amongst Johnson’s many contributions to the 1984 comedy is serving as the creator of the disgusting green blob, with Johnson, in an interview with Bloody Disgusting, admitting that the end result came as a result of a drug-filled binge and a visit from the ghost of John Belushi.

“I’d been working for six months sculpting hundreds of Slimer variations, and they finally said, ‘make him look more like Belushi,’ and I said, what the ____ are you talking about?... I was three grams into the night and in a cocaine-induced delusional paranoia, and I literally thought that John Belushi’s ghost came to me to help me out,” with Johnson adding, “So I pulled out a stack of headshots of John Belushi, poured a gram of cocaine on it and started chopping lines up,”

For those looking to take advantage of this rare opportunity, Slimer is now available for $250 and, again, limited to merely 30 pieces. To order, reach out to The Containment Unit via e-mail (slimedsignatures@gmail.com). Additionally, Johnson will be live through The Containment Unit’s social media pages later this week to sign the included plaques, so we’d recommend giving them a follow-through Facebook.
